Etidronic acid (HEDP)

Diphosphonic acids (e.g., HEDP) are widely used as scale inhibitors and corrosion inhibitors in industrial cooling water systems, boiler water treatment, and oilfield water injection. They also serve as additives in detergents and cleaners (especially for hard water stain removal), stabilizers in textile dyeing processes, and chelating agents in metal processing. Additionally, they find applications in food & beverage processing (water quality control) and electronic manufacturing (water treatment to prevent equipment scaling).

Store in a sealed container made of corrosion-resistant material (e.g., plastic or glass with an inert inner liner). Keep in a cool, dry, and dark place (preferably below 15 °C for some types) to avoid moisture absorption and decomposition. For certain diphosphonic acids, storage under an inert gas atmosphere (e.g., nitrogen) is recommended to prevent hydrolysis or oxidation. Avoid exposure to high temperatures, direct sunlight, and incompatible substances (e.g., strong bases or oxidizers).
